Abstract

The traditional weaving of the Ecuadorian toquilla straw hat, a representative manifestation of the Ecuadorian intangible heritage, is examined by crossing the relationship between cultural heritage management, the participation of knowledge-bearing communities, and the action of the States to save traditional knowledge. Hence, the project “Weaving Sustainable Development in Pile” is made up of three components: safeguarding, training, and value chain, which started from a diagnosis of the current reality of the community, to then address a phase of installing the products designed and finally, the use of such products to generate collective projects to the beneficiaries.
