Abstract

This investigation was conducted in Loja Province, Tambo Blanco (San Lucas, Ecuador) archeological site. The archeological evidence is represented by lithic and ceramic material scattered on the surface and structures such as stepped terraces, central palace, kallanka, kollkas, Kápac-Ñan, among others, denoting an important historical occupation by its materiality. Human activities and climatic factors cause a constant disruption and destruction of the site, connoted by an alleged lack of interest and awareness about archeological heritage in the region, being a social and investigative problem. Thus, this study aimed to recognize the current state of archeological vestiges and, at the same time, inquire about the perceptions and meanings that the villagers assigned to the heritage elements of the area through social cartography and in-depth interviews. This research generated a record of the materiality present in Tambo Blanco and the current uses of this archeological site.
