Abstract

The beauty of a small Polylepis forest at 4.300 above sea level raises the question of why this forest is so small. Is it all that is left of a bigger forest? This would mean that even this small reagent is in danger. This article describes the effort to understand the dynamics of this “relict” and concludes that the danger of its destruction is not imminent. On the contrary there is hope for a process of recovery. The analysis of the age of the trees, of the remote images information, and the social context shows that the forest is stable and that that recuperation process are on the way
